Healthy Dining Out 101
September 12th, 2011
Dining out(or in this case dining in) does not mean you have to abandon all healthy eating habits. It is possible to find good-for-you and tasty options on most restaurant menus.
Here are a few general tips:
- Order smaller portions. Some restaurants have smaller sizes not advertised on the menu. Just ask!
- Ask for less butter, mayo, etc. You’d be surprised how many calories you can shave off doing just that.
- When possible, select foods that are steamed in their own juice (au jus) broiled, baked, roasted, poached or lightly sauteed.
- Ask to substitute salads, grilled vegetables or a baked potato to replace French fries, chips or other fat laden side dishes.
- Order “healthy, light, low fat” entrées.
You can find healthy dishes on most of our restaurant partners’ menus. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, just ask. They will be happy to accommodate you.
Here’s to healthy and happy dining!
