WAITER ON THE WAY BLOG

El Azteca

April 17th, 2015

I stopped by El Azteca on State Street with some friends the other night to enjoy one of Fort Wayne’s famous Mexican restaurants. Having been around since 1973, you’ve probably stopped by at some point. The atmosphere boasts great outdoor seating in the summer time but gets us through winter with its long-standing menu items.

We ordered their Guacamole Appetizer, Chicken Nachos, Chicken Enchiladas, Pico De Pollo, their famous Fideo Soup, and margaritas by the truckload. We’ve all had guacamole and there’s certainly does not disappoint. In addition to the usual enchiladas and nachos, I have to recommend two things in particular.

Their Fideo Soup is made of Beef broth with angel hair pasta. It may not picture well but it makes up for it in taste. As in, you will definitely want a second bowl. I also recommend crumbling some of those free chips on top of it that soak up into the broth for a little extra texture.

Speaking of texture, you have to try their Pico De Pollo, if only for the Mexican Cornbread alone. It’s really that good. It comes with a whole seasoned grilled chicken breast topped with jack and colby cheese. It is served with pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, and choice of one side in addition to the Mexican Cornbread.

Tip: When you order arrives from Waiter on the Way, don’t eat too many chips. It’s easy to go through a few bowls of it thanks to their delicious free salsa. I recommend mapping out those appetizers and soups so you can make it through your entree. You don’t want to miss the Pico De Pollo because you had one chip too many.

Did I mention the margaritas?
