MIAMI, Fla. — Consumers who crave a Whopper but dislike the drive to their local Burger King location can now get their wish. The fast-food giant is testing home delivery services at some Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., stores in an effort to boost sales.

By Jan. 23, Burger King Holdings Inc. will be testing the concept at 16 locations, according to Bloomberg. Deliveries come with a surcharge of $2, and customers must make a minimum order of $8 to $10, depending on the market, the company’s website states. It is unknown if Burger King plans to expand home delivery nationwide.

Customers can place orders via phone or online. However, Burger King does not deliver fountain drinks, milkshakes, coffee or breakfast foods.

“We are currently testing the service to bring this convenience to the U.S.,” spokeswoman Kristen Hauser told the news outlet.

Although Burger King home delivery is new to the United States, the quick-service restaurant chain already has such programs in Mexico, Turkey, Brazil, Columbia and Peru, according to media reports.

Burger King is owned by New York private-equity firm, 3G Capital Inc.
