Before Sushi, There was Golden China

April 25th, 2014

golden-chinaI’ve been eating at Golden China for over twenty years. I didn’t realize that it had been around this long until I sat down and did the math. I remember going there every Wednesday night with my family for years. It was something I looked forward to and it was the one place where I was allowed to order anything I wanted. My young friends who had been raised on hot dogs and hamburgers couldn’t understand my obsession but I would bring them one at a time over the years and now it has a permanent place in all of our memories.

The best part is that Golden China is far from done. I stopped by to try the food and ordered all of my old favorites. When the waiter dropped off the last dish he looked right at me and said, “That’s a whole lot of food.” Challenge accepted. I started with Won Ton Soup and then moved on to their Crab Rangoon and Shrimp Toast and finished up with their Moo Shu Chicken with a side of rice. I hadn’t felt that happy in days. Nothing has changed and I had embarrassingly forgotten just how good their Crab Rangoon is. It’s where I fell in love with Crab Rangoon when I was 10 years old. It has cheese and crab meat dumpling deep fried until crispy instead of that filler that is easy to find at other restaurants. This is the kind of Crab Rangoon that you choose when you are stuck on an island and can only bring three things with you. I would bring Golden China Crab Rangoon.

golden-china2The food isn’t overly fried and doesn’t leave you wishing you would have stuck to an organic salad. It’s just enough food and it’s always cooked right. They have a wide range of entrees from chow mein to chop suey to chicken, beef, seafood, and pork specialties. I recommend the Moo Shu Chicken that is wrapped around chicken and veggies and then offered with a touch of plum sauce on the side. The wrapping is paper thin and lets you enjoy the taste of what’s inside without filling up on breading.

The best part about Golden China, aside from the food, is the pricing. You can get appetizers for a few bucks and main dinners for not much more. An entire meal with soup, two appetizers, an entree and a side cost me much less than $20. It’s hard to find that in Fort Wayne with the quality that Golden China offers. The best part is that Waiter on the Way will bring all of this right to your door step. Give them a call at 260-442-Food and enjoy some gourmet Chinese food today!

PS. Don’t forget to ask for your fortune cookie!
