800 Degrees Pizza: a full course meal
800 Degrees in Fort Wayne is more than just your mom and pop pizza place. With recipes built around the traditional Italian pizza model, you are in good hands at 800 Degrees. Unlike many of the pizza places in town, they have created a full menu that will cater to everything from a quick lunch to a full course dinner with your friends or family.
I would recommend by starting out with their Squash made up of arugula, goat cheese, candied pecans, and topped with brown butter maple sherry vinaigrette. This is a delicious treat of perfectly melded ingredients to create something that isn't too filling. Too many times, I will try an appetizer portion at a restaurant and be too full to enjoy my main entree. 800 Degrees does a great job of portion control matched well with taste. Throw in the famous Caprese salad (mozzarella fresca, tomato, basil, olive oil, and balsamic) and you have a great start to your 800 Degree experience.
Now let's get to the good stuff: pizza! I have two major recommendations. Try the Hawaiian Pizza or their claim to fame, the 800 Degrees pizza. The Hawaiian Pizza is made up of tomato sauce or bbq sauce, mozzarella, pineapple, roasted red onion, and ham. As you can tell from the picture, it's not your usual American-style pizza. The 800 Degrees Pizza is made up of tomato sauce, spicy sausage, mozzarella, rioatta, roasted red peppers, chili oil, and Italian parsley. Each pizza has their own unique flavor and yet somehow manages to have the symmetry of their one of a kind taste.
