Feeding the Fort
In December of 2018, Waiter on the Way started a grassroots campaign called "12 Days of Giving" in an effort to spread some holiday cheer and give back to the Fort Wayne community that has given us so much. During this campaign, we had the public nominate people in their life via social media that had made an impact on them in a positive way or that were going through a tough time or experiencing a hardship. We hand-picked the winners and the owner of Waiter on the Way, Derek Berkes, personally met with them while delivering lunch or dinner to their homes.
We captured these moments via video and shared them with our audience on social media. The outpouring of love that we experienced not only impacted the recipients of the meals but it changed our lives at Waiter on the Way. Many of the winners invited us into their homes and shared with us their stories and experiences. We shared laughter and tears during our conversations. We heard stories of death, loss, financial hardships, the loss of employment, illness, and hospital visits.
What touched us the most was how much hope and positivity these people all had. None of them came across as victims but instead they chose to be grateful and live in the positive aspects of each day. This had a tremendous impact on how we wanted to approach 2019 and with that "Feeding the Fort" was born. As we move forward into 2019, we are going to let the public guide us about how we can create a grassroots movement that allows us to help people one meal at a time. We look forward to connecting with so many of you in the days ahead and looking forward to what "Feeding the Fort" will become as it evolves as a positive piece of connection right here in northeast Indiana.
